This will be an evening of delightful fun and as much heart wrenching songs as one can handle. Charlene Brooks, the consummate singer and storyteller weaves person stories about these songs that inspired her to be a singer. Brooks is backed by a band that is beyond perfection, with the Dennis Luxion Trio. On piano; Luxion has toured extensively and performed with jazz icon Chet Baker. Laura and her musical director Beckie Menzie previously created Sentimental Journey: The Music of Doris Day, so Ms. Andrews seemed like the next logical performer to honor with a tribute show. Laura plans to share stories about the actress' amazing career in vaudeville, Broadway and film in between singing some of her most beloved songs, including "I Could Have Danced All Night" (My Fair Lady), "A Spoonful of Sugar" (Mary Poppins), "Le Jazz Hot" (Victor/Victoria) and, of course, "The Sound of Music" So if you're a fan of Julie Andrews, you should definitely check out Laura Freeman's musical celebration of the "loverly" lady. "Rosie! A Tribute" is a loving and well-told musical adventure spanning the 40 year career of the great Girl Singer, Rosemary Clooney. Heather Moran has deftly created a musical tapestry from the colorful life of Clooney, spanning from her birth in Maysville, Kentucky, through her nervous breakdown in the late 1960's, her mid 1970's comeback, all the way to her death in 2002. Heather is accompanied by one of the hottest young jazz musicians in Chicago, Damian Espinosa, Marc Piane, Jeff Lien and vocalist Myles Hayes. She has performed this show at many venues, including Davenports, Maxim's, Milwaukee's Wilson Center for the Arts and the Acorn Theater in Michigan, to name a few. Heather and the band is embarking on a Northeast tour in the fall and she is scheduled to perform Rosie! A Tribute at the Metropolitan Room in NYC on October 23, 2010.
